Peggy James, Volunteer since 2007

For those of you who may be interested, my name is Peggy James and I have been a CASA Volunteer since November of 2007.

When people ask me why I choose to volunteer with the CASA organization, I always reply, "To advocate for the children." But, the reason goes much deeper than that. I was born in 1945 and from the time I was two years old until I was in my early teens, I was sexually abused by someone who was well respected in the family and the community.

I know first hand what it's like not to be heard, not to have a voice. I know first hand what it's like to be invisible. If I can, in some small way, make a child feel as if they matter, that someone cares, that someone is listening, then what better way is there for me to spend my time?
